
Kenya has an overwhelming youth population under 35 years old as the 2019 census. Approximately 75.1% (32.7 Million of Kenya’s 47.6 million people were under the age of 35. Child and youth those under 14 years made up 18.5% highlighting a large dependent population, nearly 70% living in rural areas. Labour force the working-age population is 15-64 years was 57% with youth 15-29 years forming a substantial part. This creates a need for resilience to navigate competition in available resources and high unemployment and skills gaps, access to finance is difficulty, alcohol and drug abuse, peer pressure, trauma, cultural beliefs, family conflicts among others. Therefore the program mitigates economical and employment challenges, social and health challenges, education and digital challenges, governance and systemic issues. The interconnected of these issues create cycle of poverty and disenfranchisement, demanding integrated solution focused and skills development.
Building resilience youth program target both female and male between 18-35 years old. The program has the capacity to build resilience among youth with the aim to give them skills for navigating life’s challenges and setbacks to bounce back. The program helps them to cope with stress, trauma and adversity. It’s not about avoiding difficulties but learning to navigate them successfully. Resilience helps youth cope with education challenges, life setbacks, social media, family challenges, cultural beliefs, economical issues, joblessness and unexpected outcomes among others. We build confidence and develop positive self-image, problem solving skills, decision making skills, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, self-care, building support systems and helping them stay on course. We build capacity through knowledge, attitude and behavior change. We encourage them to stay positive, challenges are viewed like opportunities for growth, they learn to celebrate small milestones, practice gratitude and optimistic as they wait patience for a better life.
We offer counseling services and professional talks about your concerns. They form youth support groups, games and activities that unite them to support each other. Open space and focus group discussions are done where youth discuss their challenges openly and the professional panelist is set up to answer questions with real life success stories.
